My goal is to help promote a safe and cost effective design of buildings.
I am pleased for the opportunity to work with some of the most experienced structural engineers and
being able to worked with them, in designing some of the tallest buildings in the Philippines.
Earl P. Bonita
Academic Background:
Earl finished his Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering at the Xavier University – Ateneo de Cagayan, Cagayan de Oro City, Philippines. Part of his involvement in the university research, is the Estimation of the Natural Period of the Reinforced Concrete Buildings at Ambient Conditions Using Neural Network.
He then continued to finish his Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering, specializing in Structures from the University of the Philippines-Diliman, Quezon City, Philippines.
Industry Experience:
- Working with several consulting firms in Makati, Philippines, allows him to be exposed with industrial projects. Specializing in steel design from buildings, plants, to pipe racks structure. Right after, Earl explored opportunities in the middle east, so doing, he briefly worked at the Ministry of Defense and Aviation in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. During this time, it was the construction boom in the Philippines, as portrayed by its economic growth. Seeing several open opportunities, he decided to return back to the Philippines and started another journey. He was inspired to know that more and more tall buildings are being built in the country.
- After returning back from the middle east, he immediately joined SY^2 + Associates, a local structural engineering firm, based in Makati, Philippines. During this time, he was exposed to reinforced concrete designs of mid rise and high rise buildings, mostly constructed in the country's business districts. Started as a junior engineer and eventually, tasked to lead the Research and Development department which focuses on design optimization.
- Encompassing the demand of tall building projects in the Philippines and the necessity to meet the trends on taller buildings, he was eventually assigned to lead the Performance Based Design department, which focuses on energy dissipating device applications. Being able to work with AIT Solutions of Asian Institute of Technology in Bangkok Thailand, which is one of its pillar in terms of research and knowledge transfer. During this time, he coordinated with international foreign consultants, like Magnusson Klemencic Associates (MKA) based in Seattle USA, Kinetica Dynamics based in Toronto Canada and Nippon Steel Engineering based in Tokyo Japan.
Academe Experience:
-
Formerly worked as a lecturer for the Graduate Study Programs of Civil Engineering Department at De La Salle University-Taft. Taught Matrix Theory of Structures and Wind Engineering.
-
Formerly worked as a lecturer for the Undergraduate Study Programs of Civil Engineering Department at Far Eastern University-Morayta. Taught Computer Applications and Structural Softwares.

To bridge the gap between the academe and the industry, Earl founded Structure Institute. A training center in a desktop demo set-up using Computers and Structures, Inc. (CSI) softwares. Lecture topics varies from structural analysis and design of buildings, flat slab systems down to foundations and footings. This medium, allows him to share and collaborate with the practicing engineers of the country. Today, it is continually developing into an online platform that offer courses on structural engineering softwares.
Earl has over 15 years of experience in the Structural Engineering field. He is currently the principal of Abyzenith Structural Engineers, a structural consulting firm that caters structural analysis and design of buildings, which emphasizes on functionality, safety and cost-effective designs.
